I want to restart this discussion.

Alex my usual training site would be great for hosting an international meeting with tennis balls

Actually its a sports hotel called Die Kantine
It has six indoor tennis places
Sanitary facilities including showers
A great restaurant
Thirty rooms, well equipped
5 mins walk from the train station
40min train ride from airport VIE, with many flights, only 1x change or 40E Taxi
Insurance is a topic, but for Tennis balls most liabilities are held by the tennis cour operator

One of my fields is nearby, with many stones

Was actually thinking of holding an European Championship for tennis balls on Dec 3rd
If not then next year

--> Who would be in???

I was playing around with rome2rio and found that I can go to Vienna with half the price of traveling to a neighbor country and 1/3 the price to Mallorca. I even found that Barcelona -> Mallorca has similar price to Barcelona -> Vienna.
It could be a good place for a lot of people.
Are the prices skyrocketing in other seasons?
Are there any places to sling stones with accomodation close to airport/Vienna?(money close not distance close)

If there is something going down in Austria (or nearby)... Helsinki isn't too far Cheesy Of course, corona restrictions blah blah blah but, if possible, I'll definitely want to be there Cheesy

Funny enough I’ve been looking into the cost to hold a sling fest in Australia. Obviously flights are going to be expensive but I have a lot of potential for a 10 day event

Australia would be a nice trip but 806eur(with return) sting vs the 27eur (with return) flights to Vienna I can find.
I will need to raise my budget by a lot.

Australia is a long trip from Finland. I absolutely will get over there eventually but yeah it might be a little while still...

It’s not happening anything soon but I do have an idea for a sling fest.
It’s only going to be open for 20 international people and a handful of Aussies.
Otherwise my transportation and accommodation options would have to change.
My main concern is keeping it cheap enough that it’s possible that it’s affordable but getting enough money to fund all the fun experiences I have planned.

I don't know if I could manage a full 10 days, but I would do everything I could to make it to an Australian Sling-fest.

Well last I heard Austria was back in lockdown and I think that was Before Omicron.

Mersa, why not start with a small local event ?
I realise Oz is bloody massive and while we have quite a few Aussie slingers, you might all be thousands of miles apart for all I know.

But start small, contact your local paper and see if there's any interest.
You've got a couple of slinging mates, so running an event isn't difficult.

Having a free invite for random members of the public, does raise h&s issues in many countries
But if you stick to tennis balls, you shouldn't need expensive insurance.

And if you charge a small fee, and include a basic sling and a free tennis ball, you should be able to cover costs as well.

The butterfly slings are really quick and simple to make. And you can use a variety of materials, from tent canvas, double denim, cheap leather ,(hunt, trap and skin an old sofa Smiley
You'd be surprised just how much leather there is in an old sofa or settee or armchair.

Not a clue what internal flights cost. But there might be a forum member or two, within travel distance.

International event in Oz is always going to be tough.
It's not just the cost if the flights, it's a full 24 hours of travelling to get there from most places.

At the moment, I think we are looking at the latter half of the year for Any event - at the earliest.

Although I did have an email from pep this morning that I haven't looked at yet, so who knows what he's thinking Smiley

( Looks at email)
Well without resorting to Google translate, it looks like a presentation commentating some explorers (Magellan) circumnavigation of the globe
So nothing to do with slinging.

Well as much as I’d love to hold a local event there’s just not enough slingers near me .
My ideas are more suitable for good slingers as well .
My ideas including
Sling golf
Clay targets
Hunting
Distance slinging
Baleric comp
Cans
Beach slinging
Sling tag
Camping
Party
Bands etc

If I do it I’m gonna do it big and proper
