I got mine solely for boiling water, so I skipped all the other accessoires that allow you to cook on top of it.
I was thinking of all kinds of ways how I could boil water as efficiently and with as little wood as possible. I tried all kinds of setups over open fires, dakota fire holes and many kinds of hobo stoves. I quickly learned that if I had to boil my required water needs over an open fire it would take quite a lot of prep, fuel and produce a lot of smoke and attention. The dakota hole also doesn't suit my needs, requiring too much work when on the move to do every time and the soil here is to soggy. Hobo stoves are excellent, and simple to make, and redirects the heat really well on the bottom of my bottle. The ones I made burn efficiently, with little pieces of scrap wood and minimal remains. Then I came across this Kelly Kettle and it blew me away as it takes this concept even further, with the water all around instead of only being heated from the bottom. It allows you to boil your daily required water needs (one time in the morning and one time in the evening with the large pot) quickly with minimal -free fuel- and I am good to go.
This combined with a well made distillation kit would be perfect. I am still figuring out how to do it properly. The coil will have to be cooled with water. It would be cool if I could get the coil inside another unit that I can refill. Too bad there is no commercial kit readily available. I really, really like the concept of distillation because you can utilize tremendous water potential. However even if I don't succeed in this idea I still love the kelly kettle for what it is
