Supersonic slinging.

Well, not yet.
But someone did most of the work to calculate the optimal armlengths, sling lengths and projectile weight.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdXOS-B0Bus
And
https://github.com/Ennsye/CDT
https://www.overleaf.com/project/5ebae7675668230001078961
for the excellent manual.

I haven't found the time to look into it in detail, but it might be worth a quick read over christmas.
I have the impression, that the boundary conditions of the solver can be quite readily adjusted to a slinger. Arm extension is not covered, but as most of the energy does not come from there, I think it can be neglected for an initial estimate.
It might be possible to just supply initial conditions to never be in the platform phase and start directly with free dynamics.
Who's willing to try it?

Cool! bang
I only understood that it sounds like a weapon. Cool

I have python installed and have followed a couple of tutorials but nothing stuck I didn't learn much.
What do we do with the github link is it a copy paste thing? (yes I don't know anything)
the overleaf link here doesnt work I used the one in the video description
I'll read the pdf maybe I'll understand something there.

try to optimize for a slinger?
if we are optimising for a slinger what optimization are we talking about, sling length and projectile mass, compound sling, slinging style, modified staff sling?

P.S.: if it's a man powered device it would probably look like a whip which isn't as epic

Press the green button, then download the zip. Unzip into some folder, (and scan with your antivirus  Wink )
Follow the instructions in the Readme. However, this threw an error for me, but I'm a bit too tired to troubleshoot that now.

Yes, exactly. I meant more body torque available (or measured), your sling length, and then compare your results with the simulation. Then vary sling length and see if the simulation matches up. Something along these lines.

Great find Teg!  Supersonic slinging is on my bucket list.

I can imagine the defenders of a castle looking a bit amused at the enemy lining up some rubbish looking little ballistas...

and then needing a new change of trousers after cracks echo around the valley  Grin

what is with github ?
did they deliberately go out of their way to make it as hard to use as possible.

So many of the 3d printer firmwares are on github, and finding a specific file is just a complete nightmare.

I'm pretty sure I have python installed, I will gird my loins and go look at this one Smiley
