Lest we forget
Nov 14th, 2021 at 6:26am

In the UK, the first Sunday after the 11th of November, is remembrance Sunday.

Initially it was to celebrate the end of the first world war, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.

In our time it's the day Britain remembers those who fell in all the wars of the modern era.

My dad was in the army and I grew up on army camps and around soldiers.
There is a simplicity and intensity to a remembrance service among serving soldiers, most of whom have lost friends and comrades on active service.

A remembrance service is always closed with the last post.
It raises the hairs on the back of your neck and brings tears to the eye of even the most hardened infantryman.

For all those, civilian and military, who gave their lives so that we can live ours in comfort and safety.

WE WILL REMEMBER
