Has anyone tried using Saw Palmetto? (Read 555 times)

Nov 11^th, 2021 at 10:57am I've been trying to extract fiber from my local plants- one of which is the Saw Palmetto. I tried boiling it for about 8 minutes as I've seen that can help, and now I'm to the point of scraping. My problem is none of the green comes off. I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrong, but I need some help. Thank you!

I thought it'd be just like working with Yucca. How and with what are you scraping it?

Reply #2 - Nov 11^th, 2021 at 1:15pm I've tried using a knife, the side of a fork, a spoon, a paint scraper, and more and everything has about the same effect. I've just been scraping against a block of wood, with no particular method.

After seeing the video from Channing, I'm not sure that what I saw was actually saw palmetto... so, scratch that.

Retting tanks anyone? Ive also heard you can do running water retting tanks with a simple pump as well but its not needed. I watched a tutorial on it years ago and the guy claimed there was some type of benefit. Anyways if these works on yucca I imagine it would work on saw palmetto as well.
