I'm back!
Oct 17th, 2021 at 10:32am

I only rarely sling a rock, but I introduced my sons (8 and 10 years old) to slinging and now we've been slinging all weekend during the days and watching slinging videos at night.  They enjoyed those old "Honda vs manequin" videos as much as I did.  I am 50 years old and feel like a kid again slinging the rubber balls.  Only this time I can regularly hit stuff.

On an interesting note, when I started slinging years ago, my focus was on power and distance and accuracy.  When teaching my sons we've used a target that 3 feet wide and 1 and a half feet tall.  We stand about 15 to 30 yards away.  With the focus on accuracy, they have been slinging slower, but acquiring accuracy very quickly.

So now my boys want to learn archery.  I told them when they can hit an 18 inch by 18 inch target from 10 meters 5 times in a row, we will go cut down some saplings to make some bows.

That's fantastic. Starting young has serious advantages. Especially if they actually enjoy it.
