Modular Split Pouch Sling Design: change colors and replace worn parts
Oct 1st, 2021 at 7:54pm

Hi Guys,

Was bored and wanted to do a different approach to making a sling. I ended up making a modular "quick release" split pouch sling. You can change colors on the fly. Replace worn out parts for. Will even allow you to instantly change your release knot designs and finger loops if you feel like it. I included instructions on how to get you started.

Tie a slip knot using one end like so. I'm using 8ft of paracord by the way to make this one component.

Here is the slip knot completed. The beauty of this is you don't need to measure anything yet. The loops slide back and fourth "Easily" to any size you want.

Now you adjust the loop to whatever size pouch. In this case I'll make a 6 inch pouch. IMPORTANT: on the other end you will need to make a little eye loop for the cord to pass through.

Start your braiding nice and tight. I used a small piece of dowel to prevent the eye-loop end from slipping.

Completed braid of the 1/2 pouch. Make your braid tight and exit at bottom with your length of cord.

Make your second 1/2 of the pouch. Or as many as you want with colors and braided attachments.

Flip them and join them accordingly like this. With each of the extension going through.

And here is how the completed thing looks like. Incidentally I just realized that finger loops and release knots aren't going to  pass through the eye loops. My bad. So unfortunately have to undo those and tie them over again for now. I'm thinking of playing with a larger eye loop later and see how it balances out. But yes a tennis ball slings fine. A few times during reload it slips a few inches out of place at one of the ends. But loading ammo and momentum keeps the two halves locked. The heavier the ammo the better.

I saw the instructions and images start popping in and have been checking back.

Cool design!  I'm going to have to give that a try. Thumbs Up

Great tutorial, I believe there’s something very similar in the tutorial section, similar approach, actually it’s very similar to my Mersa sling except mine is a continuous cord not 2 seperate ones.

As for “modular” slings CA said recently that his favourite sling is a Cap Paul with rivets , same idea that bits can be swapped out and replaced.

Got me thinking about bows

You have 1 , 2 , and 3 piece bows.

Similarly to slings a 1 piece sling is pretty much set , you get what you get, same with bows.
This design is 2 piece and like a bow that is 2 piece you have to match both sides . With slings there’s a little more playing around than a 2 piece bow but same applies, set length.
Now 3 piece , again just like a bow this is the design with the most “modular” function. Length can be changed. Pouch can be changed,  material can be changed. It’s basically mix and match.

Nice work anyway
A simple easy design to follow and I bet it’s perfectly functional if matched with correct ammunition.

Good job

Joe: yeah tell me how it goes. It's was fast and easy to make. I actually came up with the idea looking at a pair of paracord-cobra bracelets I had lying around. My family gave me weird looks as I manipulated two bracelets together brainstorming. The original idea was actually a 3 piece setup where the finger-loop and release-cords would clip on or tie to the bracelets to make a sling. Overly ambitious for now.

Mersa: I immediately went on over to check out your tutorial on the Mersa Sling.... and made one. Although I had to do it twice trying to figure out what length to use. Read through the rest of the post and slapped myself on the forehead when I saw somebody used 16ft for a 5 inch pouch eventually. I haven't quite got it to where it is even yet one the pouch, but I for sure will add to my collection.
