Glad you enjoyed it!

So I guess the question is - did our ancestors use plywood/laminated wooden shields ?

I think so.  Based on what I could find, plywood was invented by the Picts in the 4th or 5th century.

Joking. Wink

My initial setup is going to be totally anachronistic.  But for starting out, this is going to be more of a proof of concept.  If the whole thing is interesting enough, and I can get things setup for some good tests, I'll work on obtaining/building some authentic shields.  I don't want to go into too much detail yet.  Autumn has arrived and the weather has turned to crap here, so I haven't even gotten started yet.  But there are several ideas on the table.

And i decided I would absolutely NOT be the person holding the shield for the tests

If we were within a reasonable distance of each other, I'd happily let you be the slinger.  Smiley

Shields were made in plank construction.  only Roman legionnaires' shields were glued and pressed several times.  of all shields they offer the best protection.

They may have been dry, but wild animal bones tend to be more resilient than a civilized human's bones.
