Post some clips or scenes from moving pictures you like.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtZmNOLwsek

From Babylon Berlin. Series about Weimar Germany touching ALL the sub-cultures and political movements that existed during this time. The first seasons is great but it does fall out a little as it moves along.

Think that's the wrong link Ratman Cheesy

For my pick, this final battle scene from Mongol (2007), the story (sort of) of Genghis Khan. It's a bit of a sanitised view of Genghis Khan, but nevertheless a great movie. A cool fact about the movie is the lead actor playing Genghis Khan is actually Japanese and learnt Mongolian for the role.

What the west was REALLY like.

And my second favourite movie quote of all time:

'you shot him in the back !'
'His back was to me.'

And there's:
' I aint as fast as I used ta be - but I cheat real good'

None of this ten paces turn and shoot bollocks Smiley

And of course the simple fact that a LOT of cowboys were black. Something hollywood has just plain ignored.

But I hear you ask, what's your favourite movie quote of all time, ever ?
Well I'm glad you asked.
It's from the culpepper cattle company.

Kid asks a cowboy what his horses name is, cowboy replies:
'son, ya don't give a name to something you might haveta eat.'

And that single line encapsulates the entirety of the miserable hell, that life in the old west was really like.

Just can't find the clip.

My favourite war film - Kellys heroes.
It's probably the only film set in the second world war that that takes human nature into account.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lELZMc7mvgw

The entire film is just one classic clip after another.

Donald Sutherland's greatest hour and a half !

Ah that sucks. VPN or then search Mongol (2007) battle and you might find an available version.

I love history shows. Although I do love American history I find European history more interesting. This is a show I watched the other day. Enjoy.  Cheesy

Tony Robinson is a national treasure. Love the programs he's done, especially Time Team which was required viewing every week at our house.

Also, how has there not been an experimental punk band called Gong Farmer yet?

I love the guy. Hes up there with Sir David Attenborough. As far as the punk bands go Gong Farmer would be perfect. Most would have no idea what it means and happily spread their love for Gong Farmer far and wide.

The thing about American history, us that there's so lite if it whistle

Even the native Americans had extremely static societies, so not that much happened.
And pretty much all the major events were started by foreign visitors and the diseases they brought with them.

The going farmer video won't play for me, but animal waste was big business in medeaval times. Urine was used by tanner's and excrement was used to make saltpetre, for curing food and making gunpowder.

Not a pleasant job whistle but necessary.

For the full story, read all the Harry king stuff from Terry Pratchett's discworld books Smiley

Watched the new suicide squad film last night.
Really good, way better than the first one.

American history has certain things that are so totally "American" like Cowboys and Indians. The Native Americans were just total badasses at their height. Really some of the first "special forces" type characters out there.

The Gold Rush was an interesting time and I am really interested in WW2 era America. Also the civil rights time period because MLK is still a personal hero of mine. Hes our American Ghandi. Although his beliefs are now considered by some as white supremacy but thats a whole different and utterly exhausting story...  Wink

That being said you guys got castles and longbows and knights and sorry we cant compare with that. For us a 200 year old house is *really* old. For you guys its no big deal at all. I love how different European countries have different flavors.

Germans are known for their engineering. France for their art. Britain for their world changing history, culture and really just the best music thats ever been made. And so on and so forth.

We have sections of culture in the US that differ from one part to the next. Texas for example is "the South"  but also not really. Texans view their state as almost its own country. You wont find state pride like you will in Texas. These types of subtle differences arent really apparent to most non-Americans. States really have different cultures.

That being said its no where near the same as say, Germany and Spain or France and Britain. You guys have many hundreds of years of culture thats all sort of wildly different just butted up right next to each other. Thats what I wish we had here.

Ah well. Thats what youtube is for.  Cheesy
