Slinging hail
Jun 18th, 2021 at 11:09pm

Last night there was some thunderstorms in southern MN and some hail also came down. The storm stopped after about 15 minutes or so and I got the chance to sling some golf ball sized hail. I suppose it wasn’t too much different than slinging ice balls like joe meadmaker does.

Awesome! Smashing ice against targets is really fun.

Holy moly. Those are huge!. That's the first time I've seen slinging hail mentioned on this forum. Possible first?

I love the shape of those. How long did they last before melting? I would think it would be getting pretty warm up there this time of year no?

Yeah it’s warm we just had two whole weeks of upper 90 degree whether! It has been getting cooler recently though. They melted after about a half hour. This is the biggest one we found:

That stuff would be lethal if you were caught in it.

And i bet there are a lot of badly damaged cars in your areas.

I remember as a kid we went to an outdoor adventure type place with school. Whilst we were doing archery, a storm picked up and it started hailing REALLY hard. We all had to cram ourselves under this really tiny covered area and I ended up being on the edge, only just under the roof. I got hit in the chin with a hailstone the size of a marble. What was crazy is that it had snow in the middle and was covered in ice so looked like a marble too. Hurt like a... very painful thing. That was mini compared to yours so that thing looks like a very not good time.

None of our cars got damaged, I don’t know about anyone else’s though. I’m just glad I wasn’t outside when it was hailing.

Its one thing to sling them back up but getting them to stay there is the real trick.

It must have been a hell of a storm to make hail that big!

The biggest hail I've ever seen in real life was marble sized.  I've never seen hail near that big except in pictures.
