Traveling target

Hey everyone! Sorry this topic has probably been done to death, but what do you use for a traveling target? Or just a target in general?

I've made this happy chap from some 3mm mild steel sheet. Takes a fair hammering and has a lovely gong sound. Can pop the chain over my shoulder like a stylish handbag and hang it on a clay wall or tree wherever I go.

Have upgraded to some screw chain links. These steel cable keyrings don't hold up well at all.

It's good for outdoor practice.
You can hang it on a clothesline, or others.
The drawing doesn't matter. It's a target like you want.

nice job !

The most popular way to make portable targets is to use netting.
make it the size you want and attach with cords to hang at the required height.

I tend to get a little carried away - and my 'portable' target setup is a free standing, full size balearic target made from polyurethane plumming pipes and joints and 3d printed brackets.

A square net with a hole cut and a catch net sewn into the centre - would work just as well - as long as you have somewhere to hang it.

Ah cool! That sounds decent. Does it hold up to getting hit with rocks or is it for softer ammo?

Yeah I just repaint it to cover my hits and give him a new stupid face 😝

Just bought a 10ft by 20ft net to hang in the back yard. During times in my life when I haven’t had a backstop or net I would usually just bring a soda can or something. Several actually. I just put the cans near anything I don’t want hit and never had an issue. On those days when it seemed like the soda cans were almost  not enough. There is, in my humble opinion, no better way to guard against unwanted hits then to video yourself slinging.

Good old giant frying pan. It's looking very rough these days, but it's still holding up. Love it. I'm most amazed that the handles are still on. Not even knocked loose despite so much abuse. They made a good pan when they made this one.

Very nice pan! My original was a cast iron pan, Took chunks out of it everytime I hit it. Only lasted one session, cast iron is way too hard and brittle, but that pan looks very nice.

Ahh yes that's a good idea, I might look at some net for my backyard. Maybe when the odd flyer stops happening so I don't accidently nail my neighbors backyard 😬 or maybe chicken wire or something.
