Low-budget reactive targets
Jun 7th, 2021 at 8:42pm

Well… it started as an idea for a tunable “shock sticker”…  I’m not sure yet if it’ll work, but it sure was fun to smash!
… you know, for science!

“My final hour is at hand. We face an enemy more numerous and cunning than the world has yet seen. Remember your training, and do not fear the hordes of Judas. I, without sin, shall cast the first stone. That will be your sign to attack! But you shall not fight this unholy enemy with stones. No! RAZOR GLANDES!  Aim for the eyes! May the Lord have mercy, for we shall show none!“  -Jesus the Noodler

Does that mean, that you are kind of a scientist yourself ?

A few weeks ago, i smashed some bricks (for science Wink ), but your target seems very interesting too (looks like it reacts to weaker shots too) and it is much cheaper than using bricks. I like that idea.

Did you know they let ANYONE just buy a lab coat?

LOL. I’m an engineer. It’s a lot like a scientist… but one who knows how to do stuff outside of the laboratory Grin

Yeah, I don't know either what you are measuring Cheesy
But what about:
- Swinging mass and IMU (or Mark 1 eyeball amplitude reading  Wink )
- Piezo shock sensor
- Attach tube and pressure gauge -> install a peak pressure indicator on the gauge.

One goal is to measure power without fancy instrumentation. It might take a lot of work to calibrate, but then the only equipment you need is a plastic bag and water.

You know… the target might not quite do what it was supposed to, but it might be able to do a small-scale version of this:

I like this direction of thought  Grin
Although, considering your original intention, it means measuring the speed/energy/impulse/whatever of a flying object by making an object fly  Cheesy

Many years ago I built some kind of measuring device.  It was based on air pressure.  Take a rubber heat bottle.  Attach a long hose to it.  This hose should be a few meters long.  It is mounted on the bottle.  With a valve.  The tube is located vertically on the bottle.  Draw a scale on the hose. Shoot the bottle.  It was a little funny.  We destroyed five bottles in the process.  But it works.  How many liters do you manage to press?  It is very laborious.  But funny
