Nettles grow.
So, I participate with this old sling.
Straps made with nettle.
Pouch made with felt of dogs hair. (felt a bit missed but ssh).
slingstone made with tangue.
A hell of the look.

Nice!
Ive never been able to get nettles to work. Ive processed many other different fibers but never could get nettles to work for me. Too bad since they are supposedly one of the stronger fibers out there.
Love the fur pouch by the way. Great idea.

Awesome! I really like nettle fibre and yeah it's really strong. I've seen bow strings and fishing lines made from it. It's also possible to make very thin material with it and it still be strong.

Between my many failed attempts at processing nettle I came to realize they are actually very tasty. I ate many a nettle leaf as punishment to a plant that had failed me.
Milkweed on the other hand essentially self rets. It stays standing when dead and dries out in the hot California chaparral. One only needs to pick the dead plant carcasses, roll the stalk between your hands and the non fiber powders away leaving a very nice and strong fiber.

Those videos go more into processing down to use the fibres for spinning and textiles but you can actually stop at just separating the woody part from the long fibres and using them as they are. I suggest leaving them to dry for a few days first though otherwise it will shrink and you'll lose the tension you braid or twist in.

Ill take a look Kick. My particular brand of nettles always had breaks in the fibers at the nodes regardless of what I did. Breaking the nodes or letting it dry or who knows what else. Never could get long unbroken fibers.

Yeah that's the weak point. Break the woody pith on either side of the node and then work it towards the node and it usually stays together better.
