Tin Can Shotgun Sling
Mar 28th, 2021 at 4:51am

My version of a shotgun sling. It needs a bit of work but the idea is there; it's a good first prototype. The flap is only connected at one point and the leather is very floppy. When fully loaded with ice ammo, it bends out a lot, almost to the point of ammo slipping out. The retention cord is also only attached at one point and so isn't all that stable. In the throw, it seems to release some shots very early but most go out in a fairly tight pattern. More testing required!

Nice, very interesting design.
My shotgun sling just has a leather bowl for the pouch. That seems to work well enough for me with the benefit of it still being usable as normal sling.

Yeah this one is a dedicated shotgun sling. You just throw what you want in it and it'll fly. It holds a lot of ammo but has very poor accuracy Cheesy

Yeah kick. These shotgun slings are awesome.
I need to get a little more creative with my slinging. I always come back to the same sling

This design is unexpected to say the least. Great job kick! Bold and unconventional designs like these are what we need if we want to bring slinging to the next level!  Grin

That's great Kick!  Using an empty can was a really good idea.  I had the same issue with the flap not holding well when I used a similar sling design.  I ended up cutting a round piece of wood and gluing it to the leather flap to keep it rigid.

It is fun seeing all those little ice balls scatter!   Cheesy

+1 Totally agree. We've seen as much innovation in the last 2 years I would think as in the previous 10. Great idea kick! Dont forget the Wasabi flavor and flat rocks for fish!

I kinda want to make a fully weaved version of this, to test if the ancients could have made a blunderbuss basket sling... even gave it a name already.

I have a couple more slings to make real quick, then I will start that project. My lady spoiled me yesterday with a surprise. Spent waay too much getting me sling stuff. So I gotta build her a pretty, girly sling. I did just get a loom, so keep an eye out.

I would love to see that! This is the ugly Mad Max style version.

Upgrade! Much better plastic flap, leather hinge and the retention cord is now coming from the bottom of the can so hangs much straighter. Going to go test it today but should work much better.
