Slings are pretty easy to improvise on the fly. If I had to construct a weapon from the things around me, I would first try to fashion a rudimentary lathe, but if that didn’t work, I might construct a sling... especially if we were at war with Gorignak.

While Im just a glorified extra you are the plucky comic relief. Regardless what weapon I use i will be killed by a rock monster whereas they will always find a way to write you back into the script.

-Can I use synthetic materials in the sling to make them weather/wear resistant (probably invaluable in a war situation)

I meant it as whatever sling, even synthetic, that is why there is my paracord one. Whatever sling you would bring with you.

I'd take a staff sling. At least then I also have a stick

I had an idea to make something like a bayonet for my staffsling for the lolz, though for slinging you would have to take it off as it would be extremely dangerous. But when you don't need to sling just attach it and you have a short spear.

I did that with a spear head I have with my first staff sling. Annoyingly the spear head came without a mounting hole drilled out so it was just on the end and fell off easily. The concept works though.

Screw-on spearhead! I don't know how secure it would be but it would work!  Grin
