My second sling desing type for trades or purchase
Mar 10th, 2021 at 11:21pm

This one is done with a traditional weaved sling for the main sling. After braiding the finger loop I inserted a leather ring before tying the rest of the sling. Then I free handed a pouch and lashed it on with a long constrictor knot, on each side. After that I soaked the leather, and formed the pouch around a racquet ball, while on the sling. I folded over the tabs and wrapped the whole pouch with paper towels, then I wrapped the pouch tightly  with electrical tape and set it aside to dry, while I started a custom sling for my lady. Then I came back to it, and sowed the pouch tabs in place. Then I soaked the whole sling and rewrapped the pouch with tape and paper towels. Then I fastened the cords together with rubber bands and placed it with constant tension on the cords. The reasoning behind that step is to wet lock the knots, and to set the relaxed point of the teathers exactly where I wanted them. The finishing touch is going to be to add clear uv acrylic on the exposed cord in the finger loop, to flush it up with the leather, then I can sand it smooth. Should provide a nice sturdy finger loop that still allows to feel feedback, while also still having a soft leather interior to keep from roap burning yourself too bad. Any thoughts and feedback are greatly appreciated. My goal is to turn sling making into an art, while kicking out practical, working slings. Thanks everyone.
Duck out... for now.
Ps. Pics of the finished product, and some steps will be posted.

I let it dry 24 hours for the final drying.

I only wish I had made the tabs a little larger. I will post this up on the pouch design topic for anyone interested.

I finished the finger loop with some uv acrylic and it feels so smooth

I now decided this is my favorite sling I have made, after adding the acrylic to stiffen and smooth out the finget loop

My first slings were comically ugly and clumsy by design.  It's hard to believe you just started.

Thanks guys. Just wait until you see the one I am working on now. I just went and got some real leather work tools. No more poking holes with a nail and forcing cord through with my teeth

Oh and thos big stitches on the pouch act like rifling in a barrel for the ammo. This is also currently my most accurate sling, and is overall the most pleasant to use.

Get yourself a dual-loop on the retention cord and you'll have yourself a real winner Smiley (jk these are great looking slings)

I have been curious about a double finger loop, and why I have heard they are better for accuracy. Do you put them both on the same finger, or one on the index, and one on the middle? I would imagine you put it on two fingers. I am already thinking of a way to do a dual finger. Probably start with 8 strands vs 4, and do two 4 strand round braid finger loops, then two 8 strand round braids, for a couple cm, then bring them into a 16 strand round braid for the cords, then I am trying to decide for the pouch if I should do two 8 strand braids or 4, 4 strand braids with netting weaved in between them. Could be cool I think
