Greetings from New York
Mar 4th, 2021 at 1:31pm

Hello, I hope everyone is well! I'm a newbie from New York and I'm waiting for a sling that I ordered a few days ago. I'm excited to pick up this hobby as I'm an archer and history enthusiast. I'm hoping to pick up any advice and see all the great content on this forum.

Welcome from Finland! You've definitely come to the right place. Where have you ordered from? There's a fairly good chance the person you ordered from is on the forum Cheesy

I've ordered from HilltopHurler on Etsy. It's a split pouch design made from hemp, which is what he recommended for beginners. Until then I'm looking up slinging tutorials on Youtube and finding any information on it's history as well. Ballearic style appeals to me most for whatever reason, but I don't know what I'll start with

As far as slings go. Start with something that holds your projectile reliably.  As far as style goes, use whatever is most comfortable. Those are good places to start.

Ah yeah I follow him on Instagram. He does make very nice slings though I haven't tried one out myself. I found (still do find in fact) Balearic/sidearm to be quite difficult, cut that's something you quickly realize with slinging: because it all comes down to body mechanics, what works and what feels comfortable can vary quite a lot from person to person. Best thing I can suggest is experiment as much as possible.

I'm in Queens. Don't have any big open expanses to sling rocks for distance, but I intend on slinging handballs and tennis balls in handball courts for the time being

Welcome to the forum from New Jersey.  A split pouch sling and Balearic Style is as good a place to start as any.
