Wow!  Well let’s see, 48 hours at the new federal minimum wage works out to $720. Throws in a 30% retail markup, and those slings would be a bargain at $1,000 each in a fair market.  If that’s how you’re making my SITH, it’s worth the wait even if it does take 2 years to finish  Smiley

I should be more clear. 48 hours just to complete the pouch from string to finished with leather and all the good stuff. That doesn't include any braiding of the retention or release  cord or anything else. For that matter. Now it might go faster and end up being more like 30 but the chances of that are slim.

...

...

This represents approx an inch and a half of pouch. 40 lines , 20 cords, 10 knots per line with 9 every other line. 380 double knots of different types. Each knot is knotted twice meaning 760 individual knots for an inch and a half. The cord is basically thread so undoing knots when you screw up is grueling. Say you see a screw 5 lines down from where you at. That's a hell of a lot of very tiny knots.  At 20 lines down from the end I'm considering self immolation.

@Morphy Sticking yourself with a cattle prod would be simpler and possibly more effective since you are clearly actively seeking pain and punishment.

Oh don't I know it. When things get too difficult I'll probably taser myself to relax.

C'mon my friend that's a party foul. Pictures or it didn't happen.  Grin
You have arguably the best pictures on this forum. So you should add to that legacy with your brand.

@Joe- you said you don’t know what to do with the extra cordage? They would have to be put through the loops? I’m slow. Can you explain for me?

In the videos the braiding is being done by knotting the cord at an anchor point and looping it around the fingers.  After passing one of the loops through another, the braid is tightened by moving your arms away from each other.  So the length of the cord is limited to an arm length.

My thought on using longer cords was to tie a simple overhand knot (I will refer to this as the mid-knot) in middle of the cord (not precisely the middle, but 2 - 3 feet from the anchor knot).  Then roll up the extra cord.  You could then braid with the mid-knot acting as the loop.  But as said, the additional rolled up cord would need to be held somehow and passed through the other loops as you braid.  When you start to run out of cord, the mid-knot can be untied, and a new one made further down the cord.  Continue braiding, and repeat.

Let me know if that still doesn't make sense.  I think I can take a picture to demonstrate much better.

Ok great. Makes perfect sense now. So I've had to do something similar. What works for me (which is pretty hobo) is to get this, attach it to something solid like a board or even tie a rope around the metal loop.

...

The cord can only go through one way. It will give you any amount of tension from fairly loose to very tight without slipping. Not sure if it would work on a flat braid though. For round braids it's magic.  Just quickly pull it through and start braiding again.

Hey!  To resurrect a dead thread...

I've been watching Ingrid's videos recently too!  It seems like a perfect way to braid a sling since splitting and joining is built right into the method.  I just haven't been able to figure out how to make the first few cycles look very nice.
