We haven't had one of these in a while, lets see where we stand today, and share our reasons why, since opinions and experiences can always change.

Depends on the task but I went for 175-200g. This I feel is nice for target shooting, it's got about the right weight for a nice natural speed throw for me. I do use all sorts of weights though, basically the entire range except not below 50g.

A 2.5 inch diameter ice ball is usually around 110 g.  So that range has my vote.

It very much depends on what sling I am using.
If I am using a braided plant fibre sling than the bare minimum is 100g, because the slings themselves already weight around 50g. You need heavier stones to still feel the stone in the sling.  So you automatically go to 150-200 g stones.

If I am using a single cord paracord sling than my preferred weight is a 75-100, that weight keeps the strings nice and taught but also feels to be about ideal for efficency, and because the sling is lightweight you have no problem feeling the stone.

End all be all I think I prefer the lighter sling and lighter projectile over the heavier sling and heavier projectile. Velocity and distance is more important for me than momentum and short range destructive power, and I get to carry twice as many projectiles

Ive always had the same reasoning J. I find for me 5 oz stones are just about the perfect combination for hunting. Heavy enough to retain lots of crushing power down range and light enough that I can still sling it fairly quickly. Not a big fan of Lobbing. But God bless you lobbers and your lobbing ways I would never have you any other way.

That’s a tough question for me to answer. I almost exclusively sling tennis balls in my suburban backyard. I would prefer heavier ammo in a wilderness or with a good backstop, but I already have trouble with knocking fence boards loose in my yard with a 60g tennis ball, so I don’t want to use heavier ammunition in that specific environment.

I usually sling oval shaped river stones.  I like them the size of a large chicken egg.  I guess that's about 75-100 grams.

For stones, 200-225g is a weight I'm rather fond of. It's heavy enough to pack a serious punch, while still maintaining a decent velocity. A nice balance.
However, I am also fond of 50g lead glandes as you can carry loads of them and they fly into oblivion.

It's easy to overestimate weight
These stones weight approx 105 grams each and they're definitely no baby rocks
I am to carry a pouch of rocks I want them not any heavier than this

Of course with a staff sling most of us would use much heavier projectiles.  I've hurled half a brick with a staff sling.

If we're talking staff slings then that's easily over 250 and often over 300.

Is it funny that I've done the same but with my 15" Balearic? Wink
Probably bad for the joints in the long term...
I've made my slings longer Grin

I mostly sling 40-50 gram.
Don't know why. It was simply the weight I fell one when I got serious enough with slinging that I decided to use a specific set of stones. Maybe it was because they don't strain your arm so terribly much.

One day I'll sling heavier ones. The few times since then I have thrown heavier stones I felt how much more steadily they fly.
