Your favourite sling?
Jan 6th, 2021 at 12:41pm

As I sit here bored and trying to waste as much time as possible in work I thought I would make my first thread.
This thread is for everyone to post their favourite sling, not the mechanics of a good sling in theory but specifically the one sling you made, or the one sling you own that you prize above all others.
This sling is my favourite, I made it from paracord that I bought as 'gold' but in person it had a far more dirty beige colour to it. Slinging with it just makes me imagine being some long lost peasant using it to defend from my home brigands or hunting for wild game.
Either way anybody got that one sling that makes them feel special?

I love braiding slings, and have a bunch that I like a lot.  Although with all the slings I've used, I always come back to this one.  Just a simple leather pouch and paracord.

I could choose one of the woven Tibetan slings, I could choose one of JudoP's braided Apache slings, I could choose one of the Egyptian style slings, I could choose one of the jute braided slings, I could choose one of the Balearic slings, but I can't help but think my favourite sling is my very first sling.

It's ugly, cheap thick paracord and a slingshot pouch (as in from a slingshot not a sling) that has some horrible superglue on it to help with abrasion and that looks like it's been lying in a puddle for a week, but I still love it.

My favorite sling is always the one I'm working on at the moment. So right now my favorite is NOOCs sith sling of which there are no pictures since it's still in utero so to speak.

I'm a strong believer that there is no perfect sling, there will always be trade offs and specialisations and ammo preferences- and I personally use different slings for country walks, beach trips and competitions. That said, after the creation of perhaps 80 slings over 3-4 years, nothing feels quite as good as this sisal apache design to me. The below pictured was my primary sling in the 2020 balearics, and it's direct predecessor in the 2019 balearics. It feels amazing with 100-250g smooth stones and clay ammo. I consider it mainly a competition sling but it works for most things.

This one is showing a little wear on the release cord now, so I'm going to rebraid in some dyneema which I picked up the other day, hopefully should last a very long time with that!

I'm with Morphy, though usually it is the one that I just finished rather than the one I'm working on. Latest is a woven egyptian that is a great target sling.

This dirty, raw and primitive Balearic of mine, a real work horse. That's a 200g rock for reference

Very interesting to see everyone's preferences.
I'd have to go with my wool Balearic, as it has almost everything I want in a sling.

Just starting a new sling. It's the beta test for some of the major concepts of the SITH sling I'll be sending NOOC. Right now it's a ball of tangled string and I love it so very much. I want to name it and feed it and make it feel special before it grows up into a weapon capable of slinging tennis balls at the speed of NOOC's quite obviously robotically enhanced right arm.

Well, that’s great... except that I’m left-handed.

No problem. I'll send two and you can dual wield them.
