The real problem is that people care more about feelings than truth... to the point of even denying the existence of truth. If facts don’t matter, you are easily manipulated by garbage like this.

Journalists don’t actually go out anymore. If it’s not on Twitter, it never happened!

   The news media doesn't really care about anything but sensationalism. That's what sells.

The fear is palpable in some people. My brother is one of them. I understand being careful but don’t strain relationships over something you have very little experience with or something you’ve only heard the most extreme fear porn from the media. Be careful, but be balanced is I guess the point I’m making.

I’ve literally been face to face with people that are super hot with covid, in the process of dying from it. I’ve intubated such patients which means you are basically opening up their airway and looking straight down into their lungs as you put a tube into them. All the while they are breathing on you, coughing and sometimes gagging on you.   I’ve not had Covid yet, although after that last call last shift I wouldn’t be surprised if I get it.

If you have a good immune system with no major comorbidities odds are very, very good that you won’t have much of an issue. These are just the facts based on the numbers we have now. Yet if you believe everything the media says I should’ve been dead a dozen times by now.  Now that I’ve jinxed myself, it’s been nice knowing you all.   

I’m going to put a big caveat on the above statement. I personally believe we are in for a worse wave of covid. Not trying to spread fear, and I truly hope I’m wrong. That being said though, reality may become fear porn if things go sideways hard. So again, be careful but balanced.

It’s total BS. They pestered her until she went to the ER... in an ambulance. The roommates, like my friend, are young, healthy, and have all already been exposed to covid. Now, out of fear, my friend is being sent out to expose other random people in the general public to covid and take up medical resources at a hospital when she should be at home resting. This is just one person. I’m sure similar stories happen hundreds of times every day.  This is what fear mongering in the news does to people, and the cumulative effects are devastating.

That’s true, and that was my initial reaction too. They can’t legally force her out, but they can pester her to leave and prevent her from getting rest when she needs it the most.  That’s the route they chose, and under those circumstances the best thing to do is leave rather than face both covid and a hostile home environment. She’s going to ride it out with a family from church who also has covid.  It’s annoying that the roommates “won”, but they are paying a heavier price long-term by torpedoing the relationship and losing respect from 3rd party folks like me and my wife. They simply don’t know the cost of victory yet, because they are singularly focused on the one short-term goal of getting her out of the house.

Even if they’re jerks, and even if it would be poetic justice, I won’t wish covid-19 on them or anybody else. I just hope they grow up and learn the value of actually caring for somebody other than themselves some day before a bigger crisis happens.  Eventually they may wake up to the fact that they have driven away true friends and only maintained shallow and convenient relationships. Those kind of relationships vanish at the first sign of trouble... just like they did to my friend. That’s a fate worse than covid when you eventually need real help.
