Thanks Vetryan! This bow had a half inch natural reflex in one limb so I steam bent the other limb to match it. When I was done tillering, I started to shoot it in. On the second shot at a quarter draw the bottom limb hinged where I had steamed it Huh

so I heat treated it then treated the top limb too.
Finished shooting it in yesterday. No hinge. Still even tiller. Happiness

Still needs sanding, a riser, a string and staining. It is 48" oa, 3/4" wide to a couple inches past mid limb and draws 10 lbs @ 18". The bend in the handle will dissapear when I get the riser glued on.

Do you need to make bows just to feel normal? Do you turn to bow making when stressed? If so I think youre an addict. But dont worry there is help! The only cure is to make more. So keep at it.

Posts: 2453	Re: New Bow Reply #54 - Sep 29^th, 2021 at 10:10pm Another bow at floor tillering stage for another grandson. 50 inches oa, 4 inch handle 3/4 inches thick by 1 inch wide, one and a half inch fades to one and a half inches wide to mid limb to one half wide at nocks. Arrow pass 1/4" deep and 1/4" above ctr of bow. Looking for 18lbs at 18" and 20 lbs at 20 inches.

How do stop the wood snapping when the bow is drawn ?

walter Interfector Viris Spurii Offline Slinging Rocks! Posts: 2453	Re: New Bow Reply #57 - Sep 30^th, 2021 at 8:07am It is 3/4" oak at the handle and only pulling 20 lbs max. More than that, I would add a 3/4" riser making the handle area 1 1/2" thick.
