nice sling design
about the spin , without rpm measurement you can't be sure if it's significant. Also size and mass of the projectile will change the resulting rpm.
too much of anything can be bad.
so the sling is nice but probably not much different than any other thin split pouch.

what is the mass?

In fact, I think now the Balearic sling is modelled after an all-leather sling, because the Balearic sling is the only natural fibre sling I know thus far that has the same sideways rigidity as an all-leather sling.

It is braided and build in such a way that the whole thing feels ''leathery''. I can imagine they were using leather far into the past,  but it was in short supply, so they designed a natural fibre sling modeled after their leather ones, and since it worked just as good it replaced the leather ones.

I have a hard time believing that the current Balearic sling they pulled from thin air, it is so specific, so modelled after ''something'', this something fits an all-leather sling perfectly.

The first slings would be straps of leather/cloth/tree bark then someone would thin them down for less drag and then someone thought probably that a solid/wide pouch isnt always a necessity,it consumes too much material and time(I have egyptian style slings in mind) , and can be easily be replaced by a braided split pouch which is very simple to make . the sling designs are affected by climate and the culture much like bow design is. there are reasons why the english used longbows and not asiatic style bows with siyahs and vice versa. if you see the necessities of every situation closely you will understand that there is no superior way, every tool fulfills its purpose.

I believe there is constant refinement and adaptation not that many leaps in design development.

I just weighted it, it weights 47 grams.

that's on the heavy side for me
30g for thick split pouch 70cm
15-18 g for thinner split pouch 70+ cm
small pouch egyptian style 30g
big pouch egyptian style 46g

P.S.: will try if I find a belt

I hate heavy slings, to my benefit or detriment I started with ultra light slings , slinging any sling over 50g mass weight I feel the “recoil”. I hate that feeling. I think I’ll try kangaroo leather if I make a all leather sling.

Edit : my sling is approx 15g

I’ve always admired the look of your slings Tomas. So elegant and beautiful. I think a fancy buckle and it’s possibly the best belt a slinger could have. Secret belt sling  Wink

@jauke Could you provide a picture of your sling grip with each type of finger-loop? I'm curious to understand why the Balearic-type loop doesn't work so well for you like the in-line-type loop.

It’s likely to do with where on your hand you are putting the finger loop. There is much personal preference with this placement and it will effectively change the way the sling opens. The way it opens then changes the spin direction, back spin, side spin, top spin or a combination. Some people hold both cords, some like a tassle, a tab, a retention handle, a wrist loop. Lots of variety and not something that can really be better or worse.

Personally I need a cinching fingerloop so I can micro tune my fingerloop position. I also run a bead in the fingerloop to increase stiffness at the cinch.
