I am looking for information about the sling as a weapon in the pre roman iron age in North Europa and the Baltic comtries.
The reason is that in that in the find in 1920 in Hjortspring in the island Als in Denmark was found boat sacrifice from about 350 BC. There was found a boat, for 20 men, and with a displacement of 4 ton. There were found all sort of weapon for an army of about 100 man. The were found swords, spears, mail-coats, shields and many other items. Among “other tings” there were found a great many 5-10 cm large flint-stones often lightly chipped. According to Klaus Randsborg 1995 they were most likely missiles. (I assume the he means missiles for slings).
Have anyone information about slings from the pre roman iron age?
