1.5” Galvanized fence staples

Fun skillful way to waste time indoors or around a campfire similar to darts,  without the occasional drama of throwing knives.  Apologize for no pics which my next new goal.

The Fence staples I use are ~1/8” thick wire bent into a u shape and weigh between 16-18 grams.

The basic throw is flick, similar to a classic dart, but use a key pinch w staple held by bent index finger and thumb on top.

To throw flick hand almost like throwing a dart.  Thats it

They stick readily into cardboard out of the box with beginner power and skill.  As you develop more force they easily penetrate sheetrock, dart boards and wood.

Ricochets and the occasional bounce backs can put an eye out for sure, and if you loose them in grass or thick carpet its easy to find them by walking barefoot.

Ways of throwing are limited only by your imagination, but a quick way to increase force, distance and wild shots is to stick a length of string on them and use sling techniques.  One guy I know use different knife throws but w no spin.

Filing the points and cleaning up the lumps and bumps can improve feel, and sticking ability some.  Full blown technoweenies and accuracy nuts can weigh them for quiver consistency, play with point geometry,..

the guy who taught me claimed it dates back to the 1800s, when the farmers and cowboys stringing up barbed wire throwing them at firewood or each other for fun. enjoy

I make a sling shot with no pouch and shoot them out of it.

wow ghost never thought, but now remember shooting hair pins w finger slingshots as a kid.
Staples certainly weigh enough to have some real punch from a real slingshot, hows the flight accuracy compared to ball bearings or marbles ?
