The other weapon I have the most experience with is the bow.  So that would be near the top of my list.  But for my favorite I might go with bolas, even though I've never used one to date.  Love watching videos of them.  Some experimentation with bolas is definitely something I have to make sure I do this summer.

Bow of course would be my second but throwing sticks are awesome. I also have to admit staff slings could be really awesome deer killers so long as it was quartering away.

Especially Albion Slingers take on it which was wickedly powerful. Really the best primitive weapon though is the one most likely to work so I guess that means a holy noodle and enchanted quartz rocks.

I have a bow and an atlatl, and I gotta go with the atlatl. The bow is probably more practical in most cases, but the atlatl is more fun. I guess throwing stuff is more familiar.

I'm going to make a request for an ice bolas now Cheesy Should be doable though perhaps not all that reusable...

Shocked  YES!!!

Great idea!  That could be a fun contest too.  A point for each ice ball you break when the bolas wrap around the target.

But yeah.  Pretty much a one throw weapon most likely.

well as gut isn't very suitable for making slingshots - although I have seen one made with torsion bars and gut instead of rubber - and rubber bands are a fairly new invention. I'd have to say that slingshots are not primitive weapons.

You can have a stone bow Smiley
Those are fairly old.

Running the grave risk of boring everyone with a history lesson, CA is correct.  Slingshots rely on Vulcanized rubber, which was invented in 1839.  Rubber bands were invented in 1845.  Hodges catapult gun was designed in 1849.  The first commercially produced slingshot (the Zip-Zip) was offered in 1918.  The first mass marketed wrist rocket was 1953 (Saunders Archery - which continues to offer some modern takes on this vintage design).

The slingshot was invented centuries after gunpowder and centuries after airguns were invented.  To put his in perspective, the steam engine was invented in 1698, the oldest known photograph is from 1826 or 1827, the telegraph was developed in the 1830’s, and the fax machine (which relies on telegraph technology and not telephone technology) was invented in 1843.

Slingshots are human powered, a common trait with the primitive weapons discussed here.

Slingshots aren’t primitive? Oh, you’ll see. Soon enough.
