Some interesting things in those journals, thanks for sharing.
I have experimented with fired clay projectiles and I can attest that they can become very hard if the right clay and temper material is used.
Once fired, clay projectiles can certainly have a lot of benefits over even river rounded stones.
+ you can make them buzz/whistle!

So it would all have ben fired to one extent or another. Christian and uwe have been using fired glandes in the ompetitions for a few years. Unless it hits the metal diana they don't break, just bounce off the wood.
