Uses for sling(ing) in a survival situation

The sling hunting thread has me thinking what else a sling would likely be useful for if we lived in nature.
I think it would have often been used to hit things out of reach like a bird's nest or even something you want to stay away from like a hornet's nest or beehive.
Herding of course, and keeping birds off the crops.
What else?

Helps to save space and weight whilst moving about so you could use a sling as a strap or to tie something off.

Shooting at flocks of sitting waterfowl. I wouldn't want to use an arrow in that situation because if you miss with your arrow, which you invested time and effort in making, it will most likely be impossible to retrieve.
Other good targets would be squirrels' nests and primates up in trees.
A sling is very easy to make in almost any situation and in many cases good ammo is lying at your feet. IMO it would be insane to not have a sling as a secondary weapon in a survival situation.

Scaring prey possibly as well.

Not really survival, but I used a sling once for work. That was during a geological survey in the high alps. In early spring if I remember correctly. Some markers were needed in the middle of a rock face as reference points. The reference points had to be placed about 30 m or so above ground in the rock face.
The rock face was instable. Climbing it was completely out of the question. Approach from above as well as below was also quite dangerous because of avalanche danger and rock fall. We ended up blowing out some eggs and filled them with paint. Then I launched a couple into the rock face. That worked quite well.

Holding my coffee while while I’m driving around in an old armored personnel carrier. The thing has no cup holders and staying caffeinated is definitely a matter of survival!

We have come out of the woods with four shopping bags of seeds harvested in one day. That is a lot of slinging for an old guy!

Nope. Sorry. I don’t have any photos of the whole vehicle to share publicly. All I will say is that it’s so old that the military doesn’t want or need it anymore, so they let us researchers turn them into robots... and it’s a lot of fun to drive!
