What would you think if the hook is slightly before the center if weight?
A friend of mine showed me a such device years ago
A short stick with a short rope attached with a small loop at the end
This loop goes in a hook that is mounted direction towards the back end od the dart, but is mounted before the center of weight.
Thus the dart has already the right orientation while swinging, and releases itself from the loop. This could for sure be done with your sling design also... It could aid in precision compared to the loop.
I will look for the dart for making a pic to support my explanations

I'll wait for the picture because I don't think I understood the design.
the best design would be If we could somehow throw the dart with spin and right orientation upon release, then we could shorten the fins and lower the (immense) initial drag experienced just after release and also drag during flight, and the dart wouldn't fishtail so you could possibly sling them from point blank range and always hit point first. the kestros in the video stabilised adequately at around 20m.

Very high quality video. Interesting release mechanism. I like it. A lot.

Nice! I like that hit right through the root at 2:40.
Completely agreed with needing more than one. When you have to chase the projectile every time, it's really hard to get into any kind of rhythm.

I really need to have another go at the kestros. The "darts" I made are far too thick and heavy.

Awesome! I like your continued exploration of this.
Do you lose a lot of fins during testing because they come out and you can't find them?

I may lose a couple. I added a thread that connects each set of fins so that I don't spend minutes looking for them, without the thread some fins fly meters away and are not easy to spot in this rocky terrain.

You're really making me want to go back to the kestros
I need to find a better choice of material for the shafts. I was using a broomstick before but I think it's far too thick and I made them too long.
