basically make it fairly stiff and just roll it - use gloves !

for a quick egg mould. Get some two part plastic easter eggs. Scoop concrete into moulds and put in eggboxes to dry and set.

or you could just fill and leave in the plastic to set. should come out fairly easily

that's exactly what i want to do . to find a concrete mix that is fairly stiff and economical and use plastic eggs.

I don't want to leave then in the plastic to set because I want to produce ~70 eggs/batch and I dont want to buy 70 plastic eggs Tongue

If I used clay I surely would try your molds, they seem pretty fast producers.

With regards to getting good ammo, I do wonder if it could be economical to buy throwable, smooth beach stones/pebbles in bulk. Or maybe some people give it away for free if they want to reorganize their garden, as long as you come pick it up. Maybe even cheaper than clay or concrete ammo.

the problem with stones is that they shatter into sharp hard pieces.
In the uk, unless you can sling in a quarry, there's nowhere safe to use stones.

The clay i use, is not fired, so won't break into sharp edges and will actually dissolve in the rain if left out long enough.

Concrete is similiar, doesn't break into sharp edges.

If you mix shredded newspaper and pva glue into your concrete, and use fine sand you can make it fairly stiff and smooth - almost clay like.
The newspaper will also absorb moisture and stop it drying out to fast, as well as making it more durable to impacts.
Just make sure you wear gloves - lime is not stuff to mess about with !

One way to get around ammo smashing and becoming sharp is using a softer target. I often use cardboard boxes (I buy way to much crap off the internet...) and I've also on occasion stuffed them with paper to make them that bit more durable. If hey are cushioned enough they don't even break much and just "catch" the rocks.

Good stuff man! It looks like your making good progress.

I'm thinking the #3 mix appears the most reliable so far. Mix #4 looked good, but I think the aggregate is something of a double edged sword. It's giving you more density, because it's larger pieces of solid rock within the mold. But because of that, it's also causing a less uniform mixture. Which seemed to result in less stability overall. Was that your assessment?
