I like music that evokes emotion and think the primary objective of music should be to do that. I can find music in pretty much every genre that I like just because in every genre at least one person or group is going to be using that style to evoke emotion in an effective way. Take my opinion with a pinch of salt though because I also believe music doesn't have to sound pleasant to be good which a lot of people disagree with Cheesy One of my favourite songs is Discipline by Throbbing Gristle.

I don't listen to rap or metal or most mainstream music. Although if the tune of mainstream music is good I might listen to a piano cover of it. I like simple instrumental songs. Acoustic guitar is another instrument I really like.

They've been saying rock is dead for decades but now I suspect rock may really be dead. Hip Hop has taken over and I'm sorry to people who like hip hop and rap, I really am, but I cannot get into that music. It makes me cringe. Whenever I hear hip hop I put my head phones on with a repeating loop of nails on a chalk board for some relief.

Rock, especially classic rock is the soundtrack of my life. All my best times have been accompanied by bands such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones etc. Muse is another more modern band that has attained instaclassic status, despite a most unfortunate association with a certain movie saga that shall not be named.

Top two are Muse.  Bottom one is a beautiful cover of The Pixies "Where is my mind?" By a talented singer, Hayley Richman.

Rock isn't dead. These days, the internet lets anyone listen to anything at any time. I think the days of chart toppers is dead because every genre has split up and fractured into a million sub-genres and everyone can find the exact music they like without compromising and creating a mainstream hit, but that stopgap means every genre is represented by someone, somewhere. It can be harder to find them but they're out there.

I wouldnt say rock is dead, i still know lots of people who like rock like me, there just isnt really any new bands if that is what you mean, although i believe thats actually due more to the fact a lot of the older popular bands are still around rather than people not liking it. My favorite, ACDC.

When I say rock may be dead it has more to do with it no longer being the "gravitational force" around which the youth culture is focused.  It may be different in Europe ( I hope!) But here in the States Hip Hop has pretty much taken over. There is a form of popish rock but eh... it has no soul. Yes there's still rock stations putting out new tunes but among the youth it's more and more rare to find ones that know good rock n roll. Once you lose the youth you essentially have a genre that's going the way of blues and jazz.

When I was a teen, damn that makes me sound ancient, but it was the opposite. It was all new types or genres of rock and on the side a growing group of hip hop/rap. Now, at best it's the opposite though you could even make the case it's dominant hip hop/rap and an ever shrinking group of rock.

Based on what I've seen I think Europe is different. Britain has always been the hub of good music (with a few exceptions) You guys have to carry the torch haha. I hope.

If you're a fan of Pink Floyd, or good music in general, you will probably like this song. So underrated, rarely played on the radio but so good.

This is so weird.  Yesterday I was driving out to visit my mom and dad.  I heard this song on the radio.  First time I ever heard it.  I don't recall ever hearing of Queensryche before.  But I completely agree, great stuff!
