My 1st attempt at dying jute
Jan 22nd, 2016 at 4:01pm

I just did dome dye work on some jute, i was looking for any pointers from anyone with more experience.  All I used was basic food coloring.  I did Blue,Green, Red, and Black. (Black dried, and looks purple). I made a 'rockman' sling, i wanted black, but the purple still looks amazing. Also was 1st time working with 5ply jute, alot heavier, and thicker, but was alot easier to work with.

Ya I've had black turn to purple. Overall looks good though. You gotta use boiling hot water and add a little bit of white vinegar. Make sure you let it soak for an hour and continually agitate the mixture so the true color works into the fibers. Also use Rit Dye instead of food coloring, it's more powerful. Wink

@Huntsman,  Thanks for that. I figured something was alot stronger tgen the food coloring,  I did all the steps and did everything else correct,  With the hot water, vinegar,  wait times and stirring.
