aluminum bronze axe head.

Cu-90%
Al-8%
Fe-2%
Investment cast aluminum bronze alloy. Then cold worked for hardness and polished.
Aluminum bronze is the hardest of all common bronze alloys.  It is also highly corrosion resistant and nearly tarnish proof.
Although this axe head is peened to a fine edge and polished sharp, I am selling it as a collection piece for display because of a minor casting porosity.

$130.00 US dollars shipped. I have never shipped anything internationally but would be willing if you are willing to incur the additional freight costs.

Can it be polished or hammered smooth?

It was smooth as cast, but I worked the entire surface with a few different peening hammers.  It could be worked smooth again but because of the specific casting defect on this one, I chose an orange peel texture to make the little surface pits less noticeable.  I did not degass well enough and as a result, the molten bronze had tiny bubbles trapped in it like co2 in a glass of soda water.  It looked like this when it came out

Nice, 130 dollars is a good price for something like this, we sell our bronze knives at about 40-50 euro.

That's finicky stuff to make..way too much chance of getting a failed cast, unless it's thicker than ideal. If i knew i get some good money on it, i'd try at least.

Bill, we're going to cast a Bronze Age dagger or two the first week of February, we'll see if we can make a sword too, but considering there's a guy in England that sells perfectly crafted bronze swords for less than 90 dollars....... we may consider buying them from him Cheesy
(the fact is, that we're more Iron Age students. But a bronze sword is always a bronze sword, I own one which is amazing... an amazing wallhanger, that is). When it comes to fighting (or chopping wood) I rely on my hancrafted Novilara steel short sword.
