Let's Build a Film Library

Simple idea-

Each post adds a series or a movie that we think should go in the library. Only one movie or series per post.

The Shawshank Redemption.

The first real date I had with my wife was watching it in my dorm back in undergrad. I won't spoil the ending but I will say it was a very very good ending.

2001- A Space Odyssey

My all-time favorite movie. Masterwork of science-fiction. Way ahead of it's time. Superb visual effects. Just watch it if you haven't already. Smiley

Whoops apocalypse.

Obscure british comedy, always has me laughing so hard I can't breath.
The sas versus the waxworks dummies at madam tussauds, is just  classic - oy yeah, there's a teensy weensy ittle bitty bit of swearing. make sure kids are out of earshot Wink.

star wars - all three original films, uncut, un-digitised, un-messed with.

the scene from raiders of the lost ark where he shoots the big guy with the dword and the scene from the second film where he tries to do the same thing and hasn't got a gun.
Might as well throw in the rest of the films as well.

wim wenders 'wings of desire'
Quite possibly peter falk's finest film.

It's about angels in berlin, great film.

Brotherhood of the wolf - subtitled version in original french.

Probably marc dacascos's best film.
And has naked monica belucci in her prime. Well she's not exactly gone downhill, but back then she'd make a corpse sit up and drool Smiley
There's fit naked men for the women as well Smiley

jean de florette and Manon des Sources

I caught jean de florette purely by accident one evening while trolling for something to watch.
Not my usual cup of coffee (don't drink tea) but just totally compelling performances by all concerned - particularly gerard depardieu.

There are no happy endings, but damn such good films.

Life of brian

Best observational and satirical film on religion EVER made.
And one if the funniest films ever made as well.

Monty python and the holy grail - not as good as Brian. But still has some of the best comedy ever committed to celluloid.

Is there anyone here who hasn't acted out the black knight sketch, at least once ?
