distances were 10 metres for kids and women
and 20 metres for everyone else.
In the team competitions everyone competes at 20 metres Including kids and women.
And no it wasn't particularly logical.
So basically there was a team competition where they had 2 rounds of 5 shots each.
Us foreigners got shoehorned into that and had 1 round of 5 shots each.
That was the saturday in sa pobla
Then there was the main international competition where everybody competed together. We all had 2 rounds of 5 shots each.
That was in the sea fort in palma.
Unfortunately - due mainly to time taken up by speeches - we never got a chance to sling at 30 metres.
And given that most of us were slinging high I reckon we'd have stood a better chance of hitting a 30 metre target than a 20 metre
These are all things that will (hopefully) get sorted for 2017.
Along with time for us foreigners to do some real practice.
Balearic practice consists of a long line of people throwing 2 rocks each.
Personally I like a good 100 throws as a warmup. And had to do most of these with an empty sling.
But heh given that I'd never slung at a balearic target before, let alone in a competition and hadn't actually slung anything much at all over winter (it's too dark when i take the dog out) - I'm just chuffed I wasn't last in either competition and didn't blank in either - which surprising number of locals did.
Couple hours intensive practice and I'd be up there.
I'dalso like to have tried out different styles and a baleric sling - but again we just didn't have either the time or the opportunity.
