It's obvious that not one of the artists have ever used a sling All the slings have both retention and release cords held together in the closed fist. No actual way to just release the release cord the staff sling might actually be functional

And the staff sling has a point, so it could work as a spear if the enemy closes with you, would that work or will you cut your hands or stab yourself?

Not true : "Daring slinger" let the retention cord loose (you can see a ring)
