Fast slings
Nov 18th, 2013 at 7:43pm

What do you guys think makes a fast sling?
What is your best distance throwing sling?
For me- a 52" paracord PJ sling.
I can throw a lead gland far enough that I cannot see or find it.
I can also sling one hard enough to punch right through 5/8ths plywood like it isn't there.

i think this is due to having a fairly heavy pouch, lighter ammo(only 1.5 oz or so), and very long, thin cords with a FAST response time.
Any ideas?

so.... Whats your best config?

Heavy retention cord- creating a flexible lever more or less.

thinner release cord is what creates the speed of opening.

30" braided balearic is my setup. Smiley

My fastest slings are round braided sierra nevada type with tapered release cords and short thin pouches. Only use 28-29" slings. Like 4oz ammo Smiley

I think that a fast sling can be made from almost anything normally used to make slings.
My best distance was achieved using a 59" modified pj sling.  It had a very long, tapered pouch.  This was a few years ago and I can't remember for sure what the pouch was made from. The cords were 3/8" cotton.  I got 200+ yards from it.  Now that my form is better I get my best distance using a sling that's exactly half of my height.. a 38" sling is perfect for me.
I guess a TS3 is now the fastest for me but I've also had success with pjs and Donnerschlag's Apache slings.  Cords of jute, cotton, hemp, polypropylene, or paracord are all good.  I find a three strand flat braid to be the fastest braid.

Just to be clear here, you're all stating folded length, loop to pouch ?

Might just be splitting fiber, but I measure sling length mid pouch to the beginning of the release knot
