550 cord sling and bracelet combo?
Jul 14th, 2013 at 10:59pm

I want to make a fully functioning paracord sling that can also be worn as a bracelet. I'm using a four strand weave for the pouch/body of the bracelet and I want the release/retention cords to be about 2.5' each. The problem I'm having of course is that I don't know how to incorporate the cords in a way that is neat and not just wrapped up under the bracelet or something like that.

Any ideas?

Also, I didn't know where to put this so mods feel free to move it if you see fit.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean - can you post an image?
Anyway, interesting idea with the bracelet.
I suppose you would also like to be able to get it off quickly for use as a sling?
To fix it around your arm you could perhaps use a pression button?

if you make a balaric design from flexy materials, you can daisy-chain it to make it look like a bracelet.

about the cords-
2.5' daisy chained will be about .7 ft when finished. just coil them on either side of the pouch- it looks kinda cool(at least it did with my rockman).
i will make another(but not from paracord probably) and take a pic.
All you have to do to turn it into a sling is to pull the drawloop out, hold the release and retention cord ends and either swing it, dry fire it, or pull the pouch(if you chained it right, it will just unchain really fast. if not, good luck unknotting Wink)

Squirrel, I didn't even consider using a daisy chain. That's not a bad idea at all.

Squirrel, if you're not talking about the chain stitch used in crochet, I will also need the tutorial.

The only "Daisy chain" I can find in Gaargle is about flowers, electronics or need the "safe search filter" (and quite a number of people...)

Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

He joined a while back to hawk his wares but he's not a regular poster. Username is Naschitti Sniper. I and xxkid123 have slings from him and I use mine more often than anything else. I like my Balearian enough that I'm buying a Trojan horse too.

Yep, I have two of his pouches. They're all very beautiful and very well made, and he was a great seller too.

I'm not sure I understand your idea, northwoods. Do you mean something like a 5 strand woven pouch sling but with four warps? http://slinging.org/index.php?page=5-strand-woven-paracord-sling-tutorial---jeff...

Personally I'd go the trojan horse route. Since you're using paracord, it would probably take a second or two to string on cords to a pouch, it would be easier to just focus on a detachable pouch. The pouch and cord attachments would double up as the attachments to make the pouch into a bracelet.

I drew a really bad diagram in paint, since I'm pretty bad at explaining things.

I'd either use two loops like in image 1 or a modified peaceful jefferey/5 strand woven pouch like in 2 (I actually kinda like 2 more).

I was going to explain 1, but I think it's not that great of an idea. I could really improve it, but I wouldn't be able to explain that, even with a bad diagram  Grin I think it might be something similar to your original Idea, but I probably misinterpreted it.

For 2, just make a peaceful Jefferey sling with 1 foot long release and retention cords. Use those lengths to tie a small monkey's fist knot, maybe a 2 wrap one. The distance between the completed knot and the pouch should be an inch (although I said 2 in the picture). The large knot does two things. It makes tying the cords to the pouch easier, you could probably just tie a slip knot on the actual cords and tighten it around the base of the monkey's fist. Secondly, they look semi decorative and would loop more in place on a bracelet.

I would make the pouch just a little shorter than the circumference of your wrist, maybe by an inch, although you might need to size up or down if you have thick or thin wrists. Then just tie it closed around your wrist with a simple square knot, letting the two monkeys fists dangle like decorative baubles. With paracord bracelets becoming a fad (at least in parts of the US), it wouldn't look too out of place either. The cords would probably take up a square inch of space at the most, you could easily toss them in a pocket and forget about them.
