Twenty meters is pretty close to maximum effective range.  You can throw them lots further and hit where you want, the WAA ranges are 25 and 15 meters but practically, 20 is tops for a throw at an un alerted animal.  That is more for ethics, with all the motion of the throw and the slowness of the dart, you usually spook the animal and it moves.  No problem if you and six others are throwing at the same animal, not so good in a modern hunting situation.

I just re-watched that particular episode of top shot... just for that section(then went into the garage, found some long, flexible canes, straightened them, drilled a hole in a locust billet... and stuck a little spur in.. and stuck an atatl dart into my target Wink
