sling convention...its time
May 8th, 2013 at 12:37am

Fellow slingers.  I think it is high time we all got together.  I want to try all these sports.  Fundaball Slingsport, competitions for distance, accuracy its time people.  We are all alone lets come together for a sling convention next year summe or fall 2014.   How about Louisville Kentucky at Cheerokee Park?  plenty of open ground with different kinds of topography, flat, rolling, and also steepe hills.   Norman Oklahoma might be a better place they have a medievil fair every year and we could all open a booth together and hawk our wares...

Think about it people.  how great would it be?   If theres a lot of support i would be willing to help organize it.

talk to me.

Man, i wish i could go to something like this.  Even with a years worth of time, theres really no way i could get to a convention so far away.  sucks living on the far end of the country.

Louisville is perfect for me. We go there 2 or 3 times a year at least. (Doctor visits mostly, plus zoo and Scout shop.)

Just had a thought.  Could we meet at a Renaissance festival or Highland games event? I'm not sure about room for slinging, but they have space for jousting and archery etc. The Glasgow Highland games in Kentucky is this weekend,  and I will be there tomorrow.

Maybe. Perhaps do it in a nearby field.

I'd love to go to a renaissance fair. I've just got this feeling that my vision of the english middle ages and the one over there might be 'subtly' different Smiley

And no we don't have them over here - at least not to my knowlege.

Still like to go to one though. And setting up a sligning event at one should be doable (insurance willing).

But alas lack of funds means I'm unlikely to be leaving blighty's shores for the forseeable future.

You see the problem with being self employed is: no holiday pay. So not only do I have to make sure there's a lot more money in my bank account than usual - cos I don't get paid if I don't work. But I also have to accrue enough money for the holiday itself - and these days flights are stupidly expensive and going up all the time, plus there's hotel and holiday money to boot.

In short I'm looking at around a minimum of £2-3000 for a couple of weeks in the states. And in the current business climate the only way I'm going to acquire that kind of spare cash is to win the lottery (note to self: buy lottery ticket)

thought everybody knew lol
I build, fix, network, disenfect and generally function as a portable IT section for business and individuals.
Basically I'll do just about anything from setting up fairly basic websites to networking a small company.
It's an old website - but I really can't be arsed to setup a new one.
Most of the online references I get, I get through 3rd party advertising anyway.

What I'd like to be doing is running a charcuterie/food alchemy/bbq catering company.

But that is proving harder to start than you'd think.

Used to be a decent living in it support - but these days with the increased predominance of portable (read: disposable) devices the main money maker - which used to be system building - is more or less dead. If it wasn't for virus cleanups and data recovery I'd probably have gone down years ago.

If you're interested in the food side of things - look me up at www.smoked-meat.com apart from slinging.org it's the other place I spend most of my online time.

Selling slings is a though lol. But we need to create a much larger market first I think.
I have just developed a no-braid shepherds sling (leather pouch with cord threaded through the edges), which I'll post up when I make the second one with the improvements I discovered were necessary from making the first one.
Only uses scissors, hole punch, paracord and simple overhand knots Smiley
(ps. didn't work needs more thought, nearly took my head off lol)

There should be seperate conventions in Europe and the States. That comes cheaper for us all.
I would say Mallorca for Europe Wink

nah england's much easier to get to than mallorca Smiley well for me anyway lol

Big problem is there's no such thing as cheap travel these days.
Unless I can drive there in a few hours it's going to cost a fair bit of cash.
I'd like to make the next (if they have another one) international meet in mallorca. But we'll have to see nearer the time (again if they decided to do it again).
