Thumb drawing slingshots?
Feb 16th, 2013 at 5:35am

It may be an overkill to start a new thread about this, but,I assume the responsability Smiley
I don't have a slingshot since childhood, but now i ordered some Thera Band Gold, and not very long ago an idea came to me: Could you draw very heavy bands like thumb drawing a bow? For this i imagine, holding the handle of the slingshot horizontally. Has anyone tried this?
i never saw any reference to this, and can't see why it shouldn't work, especially with bigger ammo which is anyways required for heavy bands.

Nobody i doing this to my knowledge. Everyone pinches between the thumb and forefinger. There are a couple of mechanical releases going around but mostly as a curiosity.

A pinch release would actually be a cleaner release for archery too, we just don't have the finger strength/friction to draw heavy bows that way.  So it seems to me the finger pinch would be best for slingshots with their lower draw weights.

I have tried this once, and stopped when i noticed the missing skin on my thumb. 2 shots with abrasive stones. it HURT!!! maybe with marbles, but what I think happened was the stone goes over your thumb as you release, the thumb pushed stone almost out of pouch, and then pouch slapped thumb. Maybe I am doing this wrong? try it with a concave thumb ring, and it will probably work.
use smooth ammo, you should not have any missing skin, just a reddened and hurting thumb from the pouch slapping it.
