@ThePowersNation: Balearic style is my main style I use. You don’t have to keep spinning and spinning the sling. It actually helps (at least in my experience) to have a consistent number of spins before releasing the stone, especially for accuracy. Something like 1, 2, 3, throw, that’s one way I’ve done it anyway. But some people like to spin it a random amount of times I guess it mostly depends on personal preference and whatever your comfortable with.

In my view, the main reason you would need the extra rotations is just taking the time to line up a shot. Having the ammo already in motion means you can get off a shot quicker than from a standing start. This would be most useful in a battle because it takes very little effort to keep it rotating so you have it "ready". Nowadays, it's not necessary at all. If you really want to learn it I would focus on doing as you said, getting the shot off with just the one movement then build it up from there. If it isn't working for you, then don't force it. There are plenty of slinging styles and none are more "real" than the others.

Still here, still trying to learn Balearic style.

I am wondering, what is the purpose of the longer wind up behind the head? It seems like turning it into a single smooth motion with only a half circle behind the head would conserve energy.

My only thought is that maybe the wind up is to get the classic "big" ammo of the Balearic slingers up to speed, other than that I feel lost on this and am unsure if I should practice with the longer windup I see in videos of Balearic slingers.

if the time is right, you can instantly get a shot off. It gives you the ability to concentrate on the target and not on doing a windup. Balearic style is hard to learn, but the practice will pay off (yes, its my favourite style)

@ThePowersNation - That's another topic that has a wide range of opinions.  Here's a thread that's not too old and you can see what a bunch of people have to say on the subject: https://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1590665970.

For me, the spin before the throw comes naturally.  It doesn't take any thought or concentration.  It's an instinctive movement.  Getting the sling moving in a rotor is no different than drawing a bow or cocking a gun.  It's just getting the weapon ready for action.

Has anybody ever made an Apache sling using seatbelt material or some other kind of polyester or nylon webbing as the pouch material?   I haven't been able to find any posts with examples like that.

I used to think this was going to be simple.

I haven't either but I imagine it would be quite good. Should release really cleanly.

It seems like his sling is made of some kind of plastic.
Do you know where i could get a similar material ?

Polypropylene is your best bet. I get it from twine that is used to hold hay bales together. Not sure else where you'd find it. I think Albion/ Archaic Arms found a source.

What Pepe usually does is add polypropylene twine to the ends of natural slings to ensure they last longer. I'm actually not sure about the sling he is using in that video. It might be entirely polypropylene. Strange colour anyway although, saying that, their are natural fibre twines that get dyed. Jute is often that super dark green when it's sold as garden twine. The one he is making is natural fibre for sure.

Ah that's Raul. Almost certainly it's the same sling then. Good detective work! Cheesy
