sling in the movies
Mar 16th, 2012 at 6:49pm

Based on a pm I got from GreenMan, I got to thinking.  You know how stuff gets real popular if people see it used in the movies?  Well, What movie personality would you like most to see slinging in the movies?  At first I thought it would have to be Chuck Norris, but now,  I'm thinking Salma Hayek..................

Slings have been in plenty of movies, just not enough. I would like to see it in something that is designed to sell towards young adults. I'm sorry to all you old geezers, but a lot of advertising (and therefore popularity) goes to teens. I mean, who the hell else has money to spend and no bills to pay?  Smiley

Of course that would also mean crappy love scenes and bad acting, but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

If not that, then Jackie Chan or Russel Crowe.

No fletch man, that would have ruined that would have really marked the sling forever, then we have a bunch of twilight fans, and then we would have a whole bunch of debates between the creepy pale "old" guy and the queer looking spanish guy.  Angry

I would have loved to see the sling used in the "Hunger Games" trilogy most likly in Catching Fire. That way you can have an incredibly popular book series and movie series. I believe Catching Fire is supposed to come out next year. I could see one of the previous victors that grew up in agriculture some where weilding a sling quite effectively. Plus, All you would need is a bundle of cord and a knife and you could make one the first night out and dominate the Games the rest of the time. Espicialy if you were playing in a moderately open arena. And you have the knife if things come down to melee. That's what I would do at least.  Cool

How about in Star Wars instead of light sabres use some kind of high tech sling that shoots electric fireballs, like those associated with thunderstorms.  Imagine the sling battles Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader could have had.

Somebody is holding the rights to movie or miniseries "the eye of the world" ( the first book in the wheel of time series) and in that book the sling gets a fair amount of time being used to hunt and as a weapon. So if that ever gets made we might see the sling in a popular book series adaptation  Smiley I'm not holding my breath though.

I never thought of that, but, it brings up another question.  Who would be better with a sling, a vampire or a werewolf?  'Course, the woofs don't have that opposing thumb................

Merry and Pippin in Lord of the Rings. They were rock chuckers when riding atop Treebeard; would have been cooler if they were stone slingers.

William Wallace as a boy should have been a slinger and not a chucker.

Or that rock chucking little girl in the movie, "Texas".

According to "Horror Movie Rules"  all teens in love scenes get killed, you know that.  And besides that Justin Beiber guy can act his a$$ off from what I understand.

So I was watching episode 5 of A Game of Thrones online yesterday, and there was a sequence where an ambush was initiated by slingers. Quite well done in my opinion!

As much as I love the series part of me hopes that never happens. I can't imagine Hollywood could ever do that particular series justice.

Only the oldest dinosaurs could remember that movie - "Thierry la Fronde". As a young boy, before watching the film I hadn't knew the sling.

In the shape, structure and position of each stone, there is recorded a small piece of history. So, slinging them, we add a bit of our history to them.
