more power to members?
Nov 5th, 2011 at 7:28pm

okay, so spammers have been flocking in and i realize that our mods have their own lives that require daily attention and take precedence over this forum.

so is it possible to allow certain regular members to remove spammers, or at least stop them from posting (such as freezing a spammers account for some amount of time until a mod comes around and removes it permanently, or un freezes if it is not a spammer)?

we could simply have all members who are willing to help pm C_A.

of course i'm not sure how our version of yaBB works, and if that is possible. but it would help a lot.

I'm not a programmer, so I don't know how does it work.
But I've been reporting dozens of spam messages lately; this's not for boasting, nor it is a hard job to do, but I'd prefere a faster way to get rid of those messages, like a "delete" button.
I send my reports to C_A only, so I also imagine that giving more power to some members would also relieve him of some fatigue.

I repeat I'm not boasting, and I'll continue reporting spams should we find no better solutions.
But should we find one, count me in for help!
Greetings,
Mauro.

same here mauro, i've been getting a lot of follow up projects since i finished midterms. i get tired after a few hours of work, and usually go on the forum at odd hours of the night and notice random spammers.

i doubt too much computer knowledge should be needed, i'm guessing for a moderator account next to each post, profile, and thread there's a delete, edit, etc button, just like next to your own posts and profile.

The worst is when I connect to the forum and find more than a spam message in each section!

I was thinking the same, but it's up to the mods I think... by the way, another method to speed up the reporting process could be a button that would "hide" the message to other users, so that the mods could still see it and judge wether to delete it or not.
Spams are making reading the forum very difficult some times!

the current problem is down to old forum software. basically the 'messed up' code you have to type when registering for an account is just made up of letters made of dots. And spambots can obviously now replicate it with ocr software. So we are getting upwards of 40 spam accounts an hour.
Until I can actually get at the forum software files (working on it) I can't change it.

Couple deputy mods is a good idea, I'll look at the forum settings Smiley

cheers for volunteering, you will regret it  Wink
