Slings mentioned in anthropological text.

Hallo people,
I'm doing this anthropological research to support my experimental archaeology thesis, and I've found some interesting things about slinging.
Reading the book "Gli Etiopici" ("The Ethiopian"), excerpt from "Le razze e i popoli della terra" ("Earth's races and populations"), at pages 258-259 it says:
"Delle armi da getto in Somalia sono note la fionda e l'arco. La fionda, oggi adoperata soltanto dai ragazzi per allontanare dalle piantagioni uccelli, scimmie e cinghiali, è da considerarsi come un'arma ormai caduta in disuso, ma che, quasi certamente, in altri tempi era adoperata per la guerra".
Translation:
"Somalian throwing weapons are sling and bow. Sling, now just used by young men to stave off birds, monkeys and boars from plantations, is to be considered as a weapon fallen into disuse, but that, it's almost certain, was used for war back in the past".
The book was written in 1941; I've got the 1959 edition.
I think this suggest us that a sling can be used against those animals, and that, at least in 1941, slings were still used in Somalia.
Should I find more, I'll write.
Greetings,
Mauro.
