There is a hobby clay that will set if you put it on the dash of a car that is parked in the sun. I don't know the name of it. Most clays that stay together when hard will make great ammo, you can air dry them with a fan or you can put them in an oven. Or, you can put them in the shade for a couple of days. Putting them in the sun will dry them unevenally and cause them to crack. Bill

I use ordinary potters clay from a craft shop and dry my ammo over two or three days indoors.

Any kind of clay ,even the poorest quality will be usable. My opinion is that, pottery grade clay is a waste for sling ammo, especially if slinging them only once.
As Bill wrote, drying in the sun can cause them to crack. If they're dried on the outside than put out in the sun they will likely survive the quick drying.Drying indoors for a few days is the safest method.

Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

Am I the only one who finds it slightly amusing that people are debating the merits of riot shields against zombies in a totally normal manner? I do love this forum. -Morphy

Normally I dig clay myself and have never bought any. I use it to make reproduction pots and have never tried to make sling bullets from it, as I use pebbles all the time. Try looking on the www and see if there's a source of natural clay near you. I personally think it's better to keep costs down as bullets are expendables.

Same here, It really depends on where you live but around here if you dig 1-2ft down you will find almost pure red clay. I ususaly just make it quick and plan on it breaking anyway because I usualy sling at trees, but it is still great for practice.
