I think the picture must be from a museum piece with some deterioration. But I have seen sling models with the braids as a pouch.

Rockman, thanks for offering to make it however, I imagine someone closer to Yang-Na might be able to brade it. Will be happy to trade some woods along with that talus bone, i.e. agave, elderberry, mulefat spindles with an aspen drill bow.

it looks to me like an etruscan with some loose material woven into the ends to keep the pouche's shape. i've seen this done on a few other slings before.
