The Beatles are an odd case; they went from pure bubblegum (I wanna hold your hannnnd!) to things like Helter Skelter before breaking up.

Can't go wrong with the Beatles.  They could write songs as well as anyone.  Even when they were in their bubble gum phase they could still rock.. Twist and Shout, Roll Over Beethoven, Good Golly Miss Molly, etc..  One of the things I like the most about the Beatles is that they could actually perform.  They didn't need to lip sync or need a bunch of prerecorded junk or effects like many of today's so called musicians.  You threw them on the stage and they played.

Funny how the Beatles' covers of stuff like Twist and Shout were bigger than the originals. But not as good, IMHO. "Pale" imitations, is a sense.

Not as good as the originals by any means; yes, pale imitations indeed,  but they still rocked pretty good.

For now, it's Chromose Y, from Les Béruriers Noirs that's stuck in my head
The lyrics googletranslated :

In the hands of the State,
force is called right
the hands of the individual,
it is called crime ...

Oh Y chromosome x2

Mama am I a killer?
happiness in the blood,
Is what you are afraid?
and I would kill my sister ...

Saving my heart,
to when disaster?
behind in the area,
the murderer is dying ...

The knife full of blood,
murdering a child,
and dying evening,
the killer is scared!

Sentenced to death
and wrongly convicted,
the executioner is happy,
and the murderer in tears!

In the electric chair,
or the guillotine,
by a sordid morning
the smiling assassin ...

The blood of the murderer,
flowed to the feet,
from the crowd disgusted,
of the executioner ...

In the hands of the State,
force is called right
the hands of the individual,
it is called crime ...

Oh Y chromosome x6

Far from perfect, but still better than nothing...

and there is also "Salut à toi", from the same... that would make a waaaaaaaaay better national hymn than the "ready to war" Marseillaise we have here in France... Plus a nice geography lesson :p

I listen to Robert Johnson, the father of the blues.  I listen to him when I braid slings.  He only wrote 14 (or so) songs but they changed the face of music forever.  His recordings are rough but they say if you were in his presence he was overwhelming.  There may be something to that legend about him at the crossroads.  The only book I read is the Bible.  The devil's music and The Word of God.  I always listen for some clue when Robert sings, something that may have led him astray.  We all have chinks in our armour.  The Bible is a living, breathing, 4 dimensional model for behaviour and I gotta tell ya, I really dig it.  Read between the lines, watch the doughnut, not the hole and make up your own mind.  Everyday things are filled with information you just have to watch for it.  That's why I love the Sling.  It's simple, yet lethal.  It's art, and power, it's craft and weapon.  And absolutely no one can tell you what you can or can't do with it.  Sorry, got off track, ummm, I listen to the Blues......................

I find it somewhat interesting that the last page of this thread is mostly random posts made by me. Grin Grin

Regardless, I listen to a lot of music while doing homework or reading (I also pen spin at the same time, and no my grade's haven't suffered a bit).

Here's a song I've been listening to a lot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGM1CGv1J-U

Your post reads almost like a Blues song, fletch_man.  Robert Johnson is of course awesome. I also very much like Son House.  Many of the old Blues masters consider Son House the father of the Blues.  He is very rough and raw, but I love him.

Though I wish I'd seen more, I'm very fortunate to have seen Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, and B.B. King live.
