So it is "frombola" in Italian, "fromboliere" for slinger, changing the last -e with an -i if it is plural. Lead glan is "ghianda missile", and clay or stone ones is just "proiettili". In Mandarin, if my rudimentary Chinese skills suffice, it's " 投石器 ", pronounced toe-shir-chee, which literally means "stone throwing implement".

One of our members living between China and Tibet said that the current Chinese slang for the sling was "stone whip" and that the Tibetans called it something a little different. I don't know if he was referring to Cantonese, Mandarin, or another language.

maybe 扔 would be better, since to me it sounds better than tuo..or maybe because i'm such a fail at chinese i had had to get google translator out to read it lol.
