Hello every one!
I am new here on this sight and I am curious: does any one here use Baleric slings exclusively? And if yes how do you actually make one?
Thanks. BlackLakeSlinger.

Depends on what you are referring to as Balearic ... I'll use any sling ...
my favorites are split pouch similar to Balearic
braid them from mil knock-off 550 cord and smaller diameters.

Generic instruction ... changes depending on cord / fiber available and the phase of the moon.

5 strand up retention cord ...adding cords and pairing strands ... still five braid ....
( left strand cross 2 strands, right strand cross 2 strands; repeat till long enough)

adding strands pairing with existing strands till at the pouch I have 10 cords to braid with ... divide into
two groups of five ... braid each side with a five braid ..when pouch is finished pair them up and braid five
strand, .. drop a pair ...braid 4 ..... drop a pair... braid 3 ... drop three and braid 3 to get tapered release.

or if smallish cord lay out 5 lengths ... go to center braid 5 with 5 strands till retention loop built
pair the strands up ...ten strands into five pair then  braid  the pairs 5 up to the pouch and then the braid
is finished as above.

I don't use only balearic slings, but I can tell you how to make one. PM me if you have any questions.

Balearic slings are braided from vegetable fiber, have a two throng split pouch with a split piece of leather sewn on, and are limited to just over 1 meter long when folded in half (if you want to use it in a slinging competition). There are no regulations on how to braid the sling or governing what material it is made of, but the slings are usually a 5 strand flat braid made of either sisal or pita. The official Federacio Balear de Tir Instructions are of a 3 strand braid. Usually more strand of rope will be added to the braid to thicken it near the pouch as the sling is braided and then removed as the tail is braided to taper the sling. Balearic slings also tend to have a piece of leather sewn onto the finger loop so the rough fibers of the sisal don't rub the slinger's finger raw.

Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

louis pon livermore does.
Given that he's a balearic sling champion, it's not that surprising Smiley

Most of us use  a variety of different slings.

http://slinging.org/index.php?page=la-honda-manchega-sling-in-la-mancha---pio-sa... This shows the concept ... he is doing a three braid pairing up till he has 6 strands (3 pair) which he splits into two 3 strand braids ...etc

I do the same with a 5 strand up to 10 cords braided 5 (5 pairs)

I have a question: What is the difference between the split pouch and a solid one? (I mean besides the obvious). And if there is difference what is it and which one is better?
I have just finished my first sling and I will post some pix soon.
Thanks everyone for your advise.

Click the button that says "browse" to post directly from your computer and the pic will appear at the bottom of the screen. Or you can get a photobucket account and use the "picture" button which is the button under the -rd of standard in the selection box.

Just so I can get to you before everyone else starts bashing split pouches, Split pouches are kind of a historicly accurate type of sling designed primarily for bi-conical ammo but they also work well with river rocks and espicially tennis balls. Solid pouches are generally better as many of the people on here like to sling golf balls (something you can't do with a split pouch)and they usually tend to hold a variety of ammo better as they have less of a chance of falling through.

I was pretty good at slinging like 10 years ago.

A well made split pouch will hold anything down to a certain minimum size. I'm sure a good Rockman split pouch could hold a golfball size up to a tennis ball. A lot of the versatility depends on the stiffness of the pouch. Stiffer pouches then to spread apart less and hold small ammo better.

Solid pouches are in vogue right now, but there is nothing which makes on kind of pouch absolutely better than the other. They're just different.

OK, Fellow Slingers.
I was going to post pix later in the evening but, I’ve got some free time on my hand now. So, here it is, my firs attempt at making a real sling.
Can’t wait to hear your opinion. Be brutal and honest. Grin Wink  Sorry, I don’t know how to resize the photo.

Nothing to be brutal about that is a great looking sling. I'm sure any of our members would be happy to own that sling.

Nothing to be brutal about! That sling is beautiful with a great, even taper. My only question is how does it sling? Is it comfortable? No, wait 'nother question; what did you use to stitch the leather on?

I took the liberty of resizing your pic for you.
